Just a couple sketches

I’ve been working feverishly on some projects I can’t show yet and have neglected my blog… so why not something out of the good ol’ sketchbook.  They aren’t about anything or have any purpose, so don’t think too much, it’s just about smacking the pen around on the paper.

There may be a ton more of this kind of thing in the near future.

Some Spots

These are a couple of spots I did last year that never ended up running.  They were for a simple article about baseball… literally just explanations of the game.  I thought I’d post them though because I almost never draw single objects like the gloves here.

Have a good one!

Ski

This is another piece for my pals at Backcountry Magazine.  It is for kind of a dark story so it was a nice chance to do something really moody for a change.

I’m not sure I’ve posted a detail of anything before…

Have a good one folks!

Bayonets

This is the cover for “True Stories of the Revolutionary War.”  I’m very pleased with this one and its a bit different because most of it is colored ink on paper, instead of my usual black ink on mylar.  In a way I love this time period because it was one color vs. another (blue vs. red.)  On the other hand I think we can agree that it’s the most ridiculous way to fight a war… just standing there lined up, taking turns shooting at each other.  It’s hard to believe that strategy lasted longer than an afternoon.

p.s. Thanks Jess Worby for being my musketeer (top views are hard)

WWII cover

I had a very busy Thanksgiving so there will be another few posts this week, exciting stuff indeed.  This is the cover for “True Stories of World War II” which I will be working on for the next few months.  That means there’s a chance you’ll be seeing a number of war related pictures here in the future… I’ll try not to over do it.

Check back tomorrow to see some muskets.

Have a good one!

Electric Cars

Hey Folks,

This was an exceptionally fun piece for Hour Detroit magazine, a most pleasurable publication to work for… but I hope I’m not posting this too early.  Anyway this is for an article about the future of electric cars and their effect of the national power grid.

p.s.  If I get to draw birds and it doesn’t matter what kind they are, you better believe I’m going to draw barn swallows.

Have a good one!

Death Therapy

This is my piece for Gallery 1988′s Please Post Bills show (Bill Murray tribute.)  I don’t do many portraits but I really enjoyed this one… hopefully you knew it was Bill Murray before you read this.

Have a good one!

The Space Program

This one was just for me.

We have a great many things to work out in this country, but for as much as it may seem foolish, I think it’s important we figure out a way to keep going into space.  Exploring is one of the few redeemable qualities that we have by nature and I thought we couldn’t help but want to keep going.

Wintry Mix

This piece is for Backcountry Magazine, basically this guy is daydreaming about where he use to live and ski… pretty straightforward, but I had a great time with this one.

Take it easy

Drink it in

This is something I did for a project that may or may not end up being anything… who knows really.  BUT, I really like it.  There are some folks around here that can tell you I have been struggling trying to figure out how I can work using a bit less photoshop.  I’ve decided to try doing more drawing and therefore requiring less digital work to finish it and this is the result.  I hope you approve.

Have a good one!
